downsizing and home organization

our philosophy

One room at a time, item by item, Making Space offers thoughtful support in downsizing. We believe the possessions you’ve collected throughout your life take up psychic space as well as physical space. Our approach is very personal, working side by side to support you. We encourage you to find meaning in what you keep and help you process what you feel ready to let go of. We recognize it is no small feat to sort through a lifetime of objects, and it is always an honor for us to hear the stories that live alongside them.

We work primarily with people going through life transitions. May you be newly retired, downsizing to a smaller home, adjusting to the loss of a family member, or making end-of-life preparations, having the support you need is essential to moving through change.

about the founder

Making Space is the creation of Gretchen Booth (they/them) who is a former care-taker, practicing death doula, and artist living in Los Angeles. Informed by their meditation practice, they have found meaning in life through the act of letting go and feel called to help others do the same.

testimonials

"As an organizer, Gretchen is not judgmental or rigid; they were open to encouraging me to define my own categories... Whether I was feeling practical or sentimental, or even aspirational, Gretchen indulged me to keep whatever I felt defined me."

"I am so relieved to have finished this project I've put off for years. Gretchen made the it all seem manageable and surprisingly fun! It has been so good for my peace of mind."

"The downsizing that Gretchen helped me achieve during my recent move was invaluable. Making Space helped me organize my physical space, but as a result I feel a real sense of mental spaciousness and ease."
